A population-based study comparing patterns of care delivery on the quality of care for persons living with HIV in Ontario
Conclusions How care is provided had a potentially important influence on the quality of care delivered. Our key limitation is potential confounding due to the absence of HIV stage measures.

Malignancies in women with HIV infection
Purpose of review: To review current knowledge of different cancer states affecting women with HIV infection. Recent findings: With improved survival of persons with HIV in the post-cART era, the landscape of malignancies in this population has greatly changed with fewer AIDS-defining malignancies (ADM) and a growing number of non-AIDS defining malignancies (NADM). Women, however, continue to represent a vulnerable population at risk for certain ADM and NADM such as cervical, anal, and breast cancer. Human papillomavirus-mediated cancers disproportionately burden women in resource-poor settings such as sub-Saharan Africa....

Incidence of first and second primary cancers diagnosed among people with HIV, 1985–2013: a population-based, registry linkage study
Publication date: Available online 21 September 2018Source: The Lancet HIVAuthor(s): Nancy A Hessol, Hannah Whittemore, Eric Vittinghoff, Ling C Hsu, Danning Ma, Susan Scheer, Sandra K SchwarczSummaryBackgroundCancer survivors are at increased risk for subsequent primary cancers. People living with HIV are at increased risk for AIDS-defining and non-AIDS-defining cancers, but little is known about their risk of first versus second primary cancers. We identified first and second primary cancers that occurred in above population expected numbers among people diagnosed with HIV in San Francisco, and compared first and second ...

Investigation of Presumptive HIV Transmission Associated with Hospitalization Using Nucleotide Sequence Analysis - New York, 2017
Health care associated transmission of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is rare in the United States; however, investigations of acute HIV infection in persons with recent health care exposure and no traditional risk factors should consider whether health care-associated transmission likely occurred.

Colorectal cancer among persons with HIV: protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis
Abstract Background As persons with HIV live longer, data regarding the epidemiology of colorectal cancer are required to optimize the long-term management of these patients. The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to synthesize evidence regarding the incidence of colorectal cancer in persons with HIV. Methods/design Our primary outcome is the standardized incidence ratio of colorectal cancer among persons with HIV relative to rates in persons not living with HIV. Our secondary objectives are to summarize the evidence for differ...

Outcomes of Patients With Metastatic Anal Cancer According to HIV Infection: A Multicenter Study by the Latin American Gastrointestinal Oncology Group (SLAGO)
CONCLUSION: HIV-positive mSCCA patients under antiretroviral therapy have oncological outcomes similar to those of HIV-negative patients. These patients should be included in trials of mSCCA.PMID:34158252 | DOI:10.1016/j.clcc.2021.05.005

Altered mucosal immunity in HIV-positive colon adenoma: decreased CD4 < sup > + < /sup > T cell infiltration is correlated with nadir but not current CD4 < sup > + < /sup > T cell blood counts
CONCLUSION: Immune surveillance dysfunction owing to decreased CD4+ T cell infiltration in colon adenomas might be involved in colon carcinogenesis in HIV-positive individuals. Collectively, since the nadir blood CD4+ T cell count is strongly correlated with CD4+ T cell infiltration, it could facilitate efficient follow-up and enable treatment strategies for HIV-positive patients with colon adenomas.PMID:35643870 | DOI:10.1007/s10147-022-02188-8
